Study: Ökobarometer 2013

The Ökobarometer is a representative study carried out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Consumer Protection in Germany. In the assisted telephone survey  1000 german citizens from the age of 14 onwards have been interviewed. Aim is to know more about the consumers attitude toward organic products. This years study was published in August. I'll give a brief overview about the studies findings.

As a main finding the growths of number of young consumers starting to buy organic products has been pointed out. Following some central findings:
  • one half of the interviewed stated to buy organic products at least occasionally
  • most important product groups are fruits, vegetables and eggs
  • 92% prefer regional products
  • 77% prefer organic and regional products
  • 75% are willing to pay more for products from small scaled farming with fair prices
Overall the customers attitude towards organic and regional products seems to bee rather positive.
